Recent Projects
We provide holistic solutions for a complex world: bridging academia, government, and industry for future resilience.
Flood Risk Study – Gawler River Flood Region
The Systems Cooperative contributed to and reviewed a flood risk study for the Gawler River Flood Region. The study informed business case development for flood risk reduction, assessing the potential benefits of mitigation infrastructure and land use policy. The project navigated complexities related to climate change, evolving land uses, and population growth.
Climate Change Considerations in Australian Rainfall and Runoff
In partnership with the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW), The Systems Cooperative co-led the update of the Climate Change Considerations chapter in Australian Rainfall and Runoff. This update incorporated recent evidence linking climate change to flood risk drivers.
Northern Rivers Reconstruction Corporation – Flood Hazard Mitigation
As part of an independent peer review panel for the NSW Resilient Homes Program, The Systems Cooperative provided expert guidance on flood hazard mitigation methodologies. This included assessing flood risk methodologies with a focus on climate change considerations.
NSW Independent Planning Commission – Flood Risk Advisory
The Systems Cooperative contributed technical expertise as a member of a Technical Advisory Group advising the NSW government on flood risk in planning proposals. This work followed the recommendations of the NSW Flood Inquiry and covered a broad range of flood risk considerations.
Bulk Water Optimization, Demand Projection & Hydrological Model Review
The Systems Cooperative prepared an expert review to evaluate a state water utilities bulk water optimization, water demand projection, and hydrological modelling. The report assessed model suitability, explored machine learning applications for improved demand projections, and recommended methodological improvements to enhance accuracy and address existing limitations.
CSIRO – Southern Gulf River Hydrological Model Calibration Review
The Systems Cooperative conducted a peer review of CSIRO’s hydrological model calibration for the Southern Gulf catchments in Northwest Queensland. The review identified challenges posed by sparse rainfall and streamflow data, recommended clarifications in calibration assessments, and suggested alternative methods for handling data uncertainty. The findings emphasized the importance of considering model uncertainty in decision-making.
